About the project

The Lough Carra LIFE Project aims to improve water quality, restore the Marl Lake habitat, and raise the conservation status of other habitats and species within the catchment, including Orchid-Rich Grasslands, Limestone Pavement, Cladium fen, Common Gulls, Otters, and Lesser Horseshoe Bats.

Measures will be taken throughout the catchment area to reduce losses of nutrients and protect semi-natural habitats, by working with farmers and other stakeholders to change practices that are sources of pollution and biodiversity-loss.
